Certain conditions of the eyelids may affect a patient’s ability to see or drain tears. These can arise as a result of normal aging, trauma or scarring, prior surgeries, and others.
Eyelid procedures can help restore full field vision to patients with conditions such as dermatochalasis (excess eyelid skin), ptosis (droopy eyelid), and others.
Other procedures can help restore good tear drainage if the lower eyelid has started to fold outward.
For those with a history of bell’s palsy or facial weakness, adding bulk to the upper eyelid can help close the upper eyelid and protect the cornea, or outer lining of the eyeball.
Most of these procedures can be done with numbing medicine in the office or in the operating room under sedation, depending on what procedures need to be completed and/or patient preference. Downtime is minimal and swelling improves over the first weeks following surgery
